Celebrate E-Week: Feb. 15-21, 2009

Students prep their LEGO robot for the E-Week competitionThe Case School of Engineering kicks off Engineers Week with a Fun Run sponsored by the Tau Beta Pi on Sunday, Feb. 15.

The festivities get into full swing later that afternoon with the rebirth of the Case Engineering Challenges Carnival, from noon until 4 p.m. downtown at the Great Lakes Science Center. This free event, which is open to the public, features hands-on experiments, puzzles and games developed by Case engineering students.

Other exciting activities include the Egg Drop Competition, the Society of Women Engineers Luncheon, the Robotics Lego Competition, The CAA/Engineers Banquet, the Coulter-Case Lecture, to name a few.

Sunday, Feb. 15

Kick-Off Fun Run
Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society)
Case Quad
Time: Registration begins at 9 am, the race begins at 10 a.m.

The Pi Mile Run is an annual race, approximately 3.14159 miles in length. All proceeds benefit the projects being undertaken by Engineers Without Borders. Registration forms and more info are available online.

Case Engineering Challenges Carnival
Great Lakes Science Center
Time: Noon-4 p.m.
Public Welcome!

Join us for a fun and educational afternoon of hands-on experiments, puzzles and games developed by Case engineering students. This event is free for Case students, but the general public must pay the regular admission price into the Science Center. Get directions to and information about the Great Lakes Science Center.

Monday, Feb. 16

Luncheon

An annual lunch celebrating the past, present, and future of Women in engineering. This lunch will feature Dianne Anderson, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Institute for Energy Innovation. Presented by WISER and the Case Alumni Association

Teams of 3-5 students will be presented with a bag of materials from which they build their container for the egg drop competition. Space is limited, so register now! Cash prizes will be presented to the winning teams. Find registration and additional information online.

WISER "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day"
Thwing Spartan Room
Time: 1-2 p.m.

WISER students will host 3-5 teams of local middle school girls for the Egg Drop Competition (see above) and will share an informal lunch with them afterwards. Luncheon speaker will be Dr. Heidi B. Martin, Asst. Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at CWRU. Get more information about this WISER event.

Employer Roundtable Session: How to Get a Job that Improves the World

Today, popular culture is focused on sustainability, being "green," and civic responsibility. While these pursuits are noble, it is not always clear how one's job can fit into this much larger scheme. As engineers, we have the special opportunity to use our technical knowledge to bring about positive change and many engineers are at the forefront of these efforts. This roundtable will focus on how different careers allow engineers to use their work to improve the world.
