Case School of Engineering Dedicates the "Ollie Lobby"
Space named to honor Case alumnus and Sewickley resident, Oliver L. Poppenberg, for more than 50 years of service

CLEVELAND - Oliver L. "Ollie" Poppenberg first came to Case Western Reserve University in 1955. And, although Poppenberg graduated in 1959 with a B.S. in management science and went on to great success in logistics and supply chain management, he continues to be a strong presence on the university's Cleveland campus to this day. In recognition of Poppenberg's half century of service to Case, the university this month renamed the lobby of its engineering dean's office the "Ollie Lobby."
 "Ollie has been a staunch supporter of his alma mater since the day he set foot on campus," said Robert F. Savinell, dean and George S. Dively Professor of Engineering at Case. "This support has included both financial generosity and the unquantifiable generosity of years of his time, energy and expertise. We can't ever hope to repay him, but this is a small token of our thanks."
In addition to periodic financial contributions, Poppenberg, a resident of Sewickley, has served Case in a variety of volunteer roles since he graduated from what was then called the Case Institute of Technology. These roles have included founding member and president of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter and the university's Alumni Council and serving as a volunteer student recruiter and as a member Case School of Engineering Dean's Advisory Council. In these roles, Poppenberg took a leadership position while facilitating positive relationships. Poppenberg has also played an active role in raising money for the Case School of Engineering and the Alumni House.
Savinell believes the placement of the "Ollie Lobby" - outside the dean's office on the fifth floor of Case's Nord Hall - is a fitting tribute to Poppenberg's Case legacy.
"Much of the business of running the school takes place here, which pays tribute to Ollie's leadership," he said. "But it's also a place where students commonly meet to study and socialize, and that's what Ollie was first and foremost: a very proud Case student."
