WRIGHT FUEL CELL GROUP PARTNER AWARDED $1 MILLION

April 17, 2007

Wright Fuel Cell Group

CLEVELAND - Wright Fuel Cell Group (WFCG) partner Contained Energy has been awarded $1 million for its demonstration project, titled "Development of Direct Carbon Fuel Cell Systems with Breakthrough Energy Density for Mobile Defense and Security Applications." Contained Energy, Inc. (CEI) has exclusively licensed the Direct Carbon Fuel Cell (DCFC) technology (up to 100 Megawatts) from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).

Commenting on the progress and achievements of Contained Energy to date, President and CEO J. Kevin Berner expressed appreciation for the resources provided by WFCG. "As a startup company, access to a turnkey fuel cell organization is key."

Berner credits WFCG with providing a unique combination of essential ingredients: extensive fuel cell experience plus a collaborative service orientation. "The WFCG team tailored their support to suit our specialized needs. In particular, Mirko Antloga bends over backwards to ensure we have the things we need to make progress toward our goals."

Grants to Other WFCG partners

The recent round of Third Frontier Fuel Cell Program awards totaled more than $9 million in grants to 13 entities for the advancement of fuel cell research and production in Ohio. In total, WFCG Partners participated in more than $6.7 million of the grant awards.

WFCG Partners led projects receiving more than $2.2 million of the funding, including:

  • Contained Energy, Inc. $1 million "Development of Direct Carbon Fuel Cell Systems with Breakthrough Energy Density for Mobile Defense and Security Applications"
