Case names new polymers chair
Gary E. Wnek to head Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering

CLEVELAND - The Case School of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary E. Wnek as chair of the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, effective July 1, 2006. Professor Wnek also serves as Case's Joseph F. Toot, Jr. Professor of Engineering and faculty director of The Institute for Management and Engineering (TiME).
Prior to arriving at Case in 2004, Professor Wnek served on the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was founding chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering. He has served in a variety of other academic leadership positions throughout his career, including director of the Polymer Science and Engineering Program and chair of the Department of Chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Professor Wnek earned his Ph.D. in polymer science and engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His research expertise is in polymeric materials with tailored optical, electronic, ionic, and/or electromechanical properties for application in batteries, fuel cells, medicine, and biotechnology.
Wnek replaces Alex Jamieson, who returns to the faculty after 11 years as chair.
